IN RESPONSE to a recent letter, I would like to explain to Echo readers that during the winter months, when fewer people use our beaches, we take the opportunity to clean and repair the rubbish bins along the seafront.
They are now nearly all back in place, spruced up and ready for the glorious summer season.
Readers will be pleased to know that we now provide separate recycling and general waste bins to encourage people to recycle as much as possible and to help us keep up our amazing figure of 91 per cent of rubbish collected in Bournemouth recycled in one way or another.
The bins on the beach are regularly emptied by lorry, but if there is exceptional demand and the bins overflow, our beach team collect and empty them manually.
Should anyone notice problems with a bin they should contact the Beach Office (telephone 01202 451781) and it will be attended to as quickly as possible.
Bournemouth council is proud of our world class beaches and is determined to maintain them at the highest possible level.
COUNCILLOR MICHAEL FILER
Cabinet Member for Cleansing and Waste, Bournemouth council
