I FIND it impossible to understand how in the 21st century, Poole councillors manage to tell us absolutely nothing about themselves.

Not a scrap of information on the borough website as to what councillors are actually doing month on month.

And this for £9,000 a year allowances – up to £33,000 for the leader.

Typically councillors do belong to two or three committees. With meetings every other month you can estimate a councillor will attend at least one meeting a month.

But what else they do we do not know. And even less unknown now in Poole with the end of bi-monthly area meetings. Notably not even any ward surgeries in our area. Not even a public notice board.

In fact when you look into the whole matter the only statutory requirement for a councillor is that they attend at least one meeting in “six months”.

With a total bill for councillors of over £500,000 a year it is surely a disgrace.

These are not volunteers for 10/- (50p) a week as it used to be in 1970s. These people get a generous allowance. High time surely as constituents more of us petition our councillors and ask them: “What actually are you doing?”
