LAST month I was admitted to Royal Bournemouth Hospital to have four stents fitted to heart arteries.
I have nothing but praise for Dr O’Kane, the junior doctor who assisted him, and the rest of the team including the after care nurses.
It was a revelation to hear everything that was going on with involving very delicate micro surgery.
Little did I know that only last Sunday morning, I had to call 111 then 101 for an ambulance at 8am on something entirely unrelated to my heart treatment. I now know first hand just how virulent the virus currently doing the rounds is.
RBH were unwilling to take any chances, even on a Sunday.
I’ve just finished listening to Andrew Marr interviewing Health Minister of Health, Jeremy Hunt (Sunday BBC TV).
I am now convinced that it is he who is the problem, not the BMA or junior doctors. Everyone I talked to in hospital listed excessive working hours as the problem, not pay.
Mr Hunt however talked incessantly about the great 11 per cent pay increase.
That’s a fat lot of use when you’re exhausted after a 14-hour day. That’s when mistakes are made.
Those working in the NHS want more staff to share the workload.
Address that first.
