COUNCILLOR Anne Filer is stating that I probably don’t understand the reasoning behind the decision to take the services outsourced to Kier (Mouchel) back in house but what she fails to explain is to how she and her Cabinet colleagues went along with John Beesley’s proposal.
As with any decision it should have been arrived at following consideration of all aspects, especially – essential in this case – the financial implications.
There was no report, and no financial details including the costs that she openly admits will be incurred. She claims that there are no costs incurred with the early termination but it is impossible to verify this since access to this information was prevented by the council.
Either she is claiming that they were informed secretly or they just went along with what they were told – either way this is not democratic.
Throughout this process there has not been a single report to substantiate the savings claimed and even now the future costs.
As a member of the public, I believe we have a right to know how our money is being spent and to be assured that no undue risks are being taken.
