OVER the years, I have read various articles in the Echo referring to the problems with the current bus stop arrangements in central Bournemouth with the ‘solution’ being a new bus station.

However, that wish is, in reality, never going to happen as there is no land of sufficient size available in central Bournemouth.

Recently, I travelled by bus from Westover Road to Poole and, in my view, the way the bus stops are located along Westover Road is very good and puts passengers right in the centre of the town.

The problem as I see it is the need for pedestrians going to/from Lower Gardens to cross the road. If that was not necessary then the road could be made even more bus stop friendly.

If an underpass for pedestrians was built under the road where the Lower Gardens/Square crossing point is located it would separate pedestrians from buses.

There would be a significant cost but nothing like the amount needed to build a new bus station in central Bournemouth (if land was available... which it is not) and passengers on the buses would continue to have buses stopping conveniently for them in the centre of the town.
