POOLE council is undertaking an expensive consultation to determine if it is worth charging car parking fees in currently free car parks that the locals use – Hamworthy Park, Whitecliff, Lake Pier, Rockley and Newfoundland Drive Skateboard Park and Upton Country Park.

The sums to be generated if charges are implemented are paltry.

It could raise up to £50k per year apparently, but then you have to pay someone to check the machines, etc, etc.

The amount of money the charges could raise is a drop in the ocean and really not worth the effort for the council, unless they plan to up the charges year on year.

Also it will just increase the parking on the roads causing more congestion for the people who live in these areas.

I have also read that the disabled car parking spaces are under review and charges are most likely to be borne by the disabled themselves, having to buy annual passes.

Many disabled people will not buy a pass, but park on double yellow lines which does not cost them but causes chaos to drivers.
