THERE is much in Tony Trent’s letter (Wednesday, Nov 25) I thoroughly agree with.

The endless cutting of services in Poole is dreadful. And the worst is the reduction of police numbers. Morale in the service must be getting very low.

As far as scrutiny committees are concerned, which Poole councillor Mark Howell brings up in his letter, I have to remind former councillor Trent that he was chair of the scrutiny committee that last year approved the closing down of Ashley Road toilets and that caused huge upset in the area.

As far as town politics is concerned, all councillors might like to take note that party politics is not the only way to run a town hall.

There are towns and local authorities in the country which are run by resident association representatives, which means councillors are nominated by the associations in their wards, giving a And that means there is direct line of accountability from the councillor back to the ward.

The nearest we have to that in Poole is Poole People. Not a national political organisation, but a local organisation.
