ON Saturday night, November 21, I was out for dinner in Poole.

As I made my way to Poole Bus Station at around 10 pm I was startled by a series of very loud bangs that sounded exactly like a burst of gunfire from an automatic weapon – but which turned out to be fireworks.

Surely it would make sense for the authorities to ban the use of fireworks for the duration of the current security crisis?
