WHILE it is not technically illegal to consume food or drink while driving, it is not recommended and motorists can be charged with driving without due care and attention if police consider that, in doing so, the driver maybe distracted.
I was therefore quite astonished when I stopped at a motorway service station while en route from Bournemouth to Southend last weekend, to see a line of vehicles – most of which had only a driver – waiting to purchase food and drink from a drive-through Starbucks!
