IT’S understood that ideas are being sought by Christchurch Borough Council for the future use of the historic Anglo-Saxon watermill on Christchurch Quay.

If it was possible to restore this ancient mill back to its original condition and purpose with revolving waterwheels turning millstones around for grinding grains, it would give a great most interesting insight into those earlier processes.

This scheme appears unlikely, as apart from the costly renovations involved and an apparent lack of sufficient water flow, health and safety regulations would surely find this whole mechanical process far too dangerous.

The present occupiers at the mill are providing benefits to Christchurch with displays of skilful paintings and picture cards showing the great beauty of local scenes. These are available to visitors, leaving them with a permanent reminder of happy times spent in the area.
