I READ in the Daily Echo (July 17) that Poole council approved plans to cabinet are investing £3.62million to build up to 178 additional seafront beach huts and will refurbish 131 existing huts – these plans have been approved.

They expect to get £275,000 in rental a year to support the council’s budget. With £275,000 in rental, meaning it would take 13 years to accrue £3.57m and that will leave £45,000 outstanding into the 14th year 14 years to reach recoup their initial outlay of £3.62m of our council tax money.

Eight days later in the Daily Echo (July 25) I read “Austerity means worse cuts are on way” – of controversial proposals to introduce car parking fees in Poole’s parks, redesign services, change the increase the price of green waste collection by putting up the price from £31.80 to £37.55, and reduce bus subsidies.

I would suggest they postpone their expensive investment of £3.62m above until such times of austerity have passed. The council expect the taxpayers and visitors to keep paying more, but the austerity cuts are affecting us all and we are all having to cut back on what we spend.
