I THINK that was an outstanding point made in Echo Letters (‘Go and see wind farm’, July 20). Why on earth haven’t Bournemouth councillors made a fact-finding tour to a UK offshore wind farm and seen for themselves how they are getting on in other towns?

It really is amazing. As one web post commented, Bournemouth officers took an “18-day tour” to New Zealand in 2008 to check out surf reefs. Amazing. It cost apparently over £8,000. And what an entire disaster that whole project was.

And now, the biggest project of all time proposed to come offshore Dorset and Bournemouth council, or any other council, or any MPs, have made no effort to check out first hand any other UK or European offshore farms. And the nearest offshore farms north Kent and estuary of Thames are – what? – four or five hours’ drive.

How truly appalling. And yet councillor Beesley never ceases condemning the project on every possible aspect.

But then notably, councillor Beesley has spent his working life in Bournemouth tourism industry so is it any wonder his view is entirely one-sided?

He is not even prepared to lead a visit to another UK offshore farm and see for himself.

These farms do work, and are clearly well accepted in all other coastal areas.
