I WAS disappointed to see Colin Beck’s letter (‘Walk at peril in Square’, July 1).

Increasingly over the last few years, as the current offer of live music and arts for seven weeks demonstrates, the Square in Bournemouth has become a vibrant place, enjoyed by people of all ages, nations and walks of life.

But for a “shared space” like the Square to really be seen at its best, it does need all its users – whether pedestrians, cyclists or even skateboarder – to show respect for one another.

It is a great shame that a tiny minority of irresponsible individuals can put others off enjoying what should be a pleasure for everyone to enjoy.

The lesson is an easy one to learn: if you are cycling or boarding, show some respect for others and they will show you respect too. That way we can all get the most of what our town centre has to offer.
