I AM doing some research into the speedway staged at Matchams Park, Ringwood in the 1950s.
The Ringwood Turfs team rode in the Metropolitan and Southern Area leagues, against the likes of Aldershot, Brafield, California, Eastbourne and Rye House, in 1954 and 1955. I note that their ‘last ever’ league match was away at Brafield on 26 June 1955 – 60 years ago! – and the Turfs lost 51-32, on the Northamptonshire club’s track.
If any of your readers have any information, programmes or photos, from speedway meetings held at Matchams Park or other 1954-55 Southern Area League tracks, I would be pleased to hear from them.
