THE on-air killing of a rabbit by a Danish radio presenter, who then cooked and ate the animal, has caused a public outcry around the world.

Whilst I agree that animals should never have to suffer for entertainment, millions of rabbits are farmed and killed for meat in the UK every year in far worse circumstances.

More over, almost one billion chickens, sheep, cows and pigs are similarly slaughtered and butchered for the nation’s dinner plates each year.

Each one of them is an individual with the same capacity for love, fear, affection and pain as any pet we share our home with.

If people are upset by the death of Allan the rabbit, I would urge them to think of all of those other animals too and consider dropping meat from their diet to ensure fewer have to suffer and die.
