I HAD the honour on Friday of attending the funeral of Mr Leslie (‘Fit for a hero’, Daily Echo, May 23).
Thanks to the caring attention of the matron of Pinebeach Nursing Home and the article in your newspaper, also the wonderful support of the Christchurch Royal British Legion, Mr Leslie had the funeral he deserved and fit for an old soldier.
It was in fact a full military funeral supported by many past members of the armed forces and members of the public who played their part.
This is a lesson for all care homes.
When you have a person who has served in the armed forces, please remember he is never alone.
He or she is a member of a large family, and all you need is to contact the local Royal British Legion, who will take over and do the wonderful job they always do.
