ON May 1 you published a letter from Dr Phillip Bratby from Devon. This is by far the most succinct summary I have read urging extreme caution on the question of climate change.
This was in response to being criticised by Dr Martin Rodger (a very frequent contributor to the Echo letters page) who is a proponent of the climate change myth and loves wind farms.
Dr Bratby is a distinguished physicist who has given evidence to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee on the economics of renewable energy. His memorandum on The Economics of Renewable Energy – Economic Affairs Committee (parliament.uk) is well worth reading.
In his letter, Dr Bratby suggests that Dr Rodger is not a scientist and indeed this is the case, his Doctorate is in Operations Management – whatever that may be.
It is interesting too, that you published a letter on the May 8 from Mr. P. A. Dewhurst – who is the the real Nimby? Guess what, Dr. Rodger lives about a mile from the proposed turbine at the Bournemouth and West Hants Water Company site, which is the subject of his ire.
We have a small hotel a stone’s throw from the cliff top. A large number of our guests are aghast at the prospect of the superb views across the bay being desecrated by the Navitus wind farm.
Can we now hope that the demise of Ed Davey as an MP and Energy and Climate Change Secretary – an unthinking zealot if there ever was one – will lead to more relevant and less damaging and costly solutions under the new Secretary of State – Amber Rudd.
