I REFER to the letter from Jamie Pullman (April 22) regarding payment to musicians in Bournemouth Gardens from council tax payers.
I assume that he is a union shop steward for the Musicians’ Union and that he should think again. In the past I have enjoyed listening to amateur musicians who are usually a mix of brass bands and other similar performers.
I am sure nobody would mind if they had a collection bucket offered around the audience.
I for one would be happy to contribute.
If the musicians he refers to are so good why are they playing along with fine amateur brass and other bands?
Probably the musicians that Mr Pullman refers to are pop bands playing amplified music which would be quite intrusive in the Lower Gardens.
I think the council is right to cut this expenditure and concentrate scarce council tax pounds on priorities such as the Air Festival.
I am pretty sure we will continue to enjoy good music played freely for years to come in our beautiful Bournemouth Gardens.
