WHEN the ban on lawyers advertising was removed in 1992, it was predicted that the suing of all and sundry would explode as per the American pattern.

This has clearly been proved correct. As a letter from a GP noted Monday, this is costing the NHS billions.

Hospital treatment always carries some risk and staff cannot be trained lawyers as well as all their other skills. TV adverts by personal injury lawyers are bad enough, people who receive medical treatment at the enormous expense of the taxpayer should not be encouraged to complain.
