I MUST advise Mr Straight that town planners are off the hook with regard to traffic calming on Malvern Road, his local councillors are behind this one!

The road has become a dangerous thoroughfare; those living on Malvern Road and pedestrians have raised concerns many times regarding traffic speed. The danger is exacerbated by blind bends and dips culminating in a busy junction right by St Walburga's.

Residents near the school witness daily near misses as speeding commuters zip round the bend into oncoming cars and buses where parents park on both sides of the road.

As local councillors elected to serve our residents our primary role to listen to their concerns, do all we can to improve the neighbourhood and make it safer.

Residents told us their children needed safer access to the park and we subsequently had a crossing installed.

Residents near St Walburga's alerted us to the dangers there and parking issues at school times, so after extensive consultation a 20mph scheme was agreed with residents and the school.

We understand that the construction project is causing inconvenience, but ultimately it will become a safer area for schoolchildren, drivers (who will have to reduce their speed) and of course nearby residents.

We are aware of other parking and safety issues in the ward that need to be addressed, which we will do through consultation and with the support of our residents. We urge any resident with concerns to contact us.
