ONCE again Cllr Beesley gets it wrong. You will recall I had occasion to correct him regarding his previous assertions that a united conurbation would not lead to significant savings.
Now he pretends a united conurbation would require some super structure to manage it.
Sometimes I wonder on what planet he lives. There is no question of increasing layers of administration for hard pressed councillors.
The whole object of our initiative – of which the time has clearly come – is to eliminate all the spurious quangos, which are being created to compensate for the total inadequacy of the existing so called “cooperation” between our respective councils.
No Mr Beesley, we would do away with more than half the existing councillors by having only one per ward, we’d eliminate the unnecessary coordinating quangos (Growth Board, etc…) and if we had a joined-up council for the conurbation we wouldn’t need a separate and unelected LEP either.
And one more point.
Cllr Beesley would seem to favour a combined authority for the whole of Dorset. Does he not talk with our rural dwellers? If he did he’d appreciate that the needs of our rural communities are totally different to those of our urban conurbation. If he’s in doubt there’s a good thread on this subject on our www.unitingtheconurbation.org.uk website.
