READING Kate Salway’s letter on how the threatened Navitus Wind Farm would ruin the vista at night as well as by day, it made me think of how far this debate has moved on in the four years since I first got involved.

Back in 2011, I was hard pushed to find more than a handful of people prepared to believe that the turbines would be visible from shore.

When it came out that, despite the developers’ “trick photography”, they would tower over the Isle of Wight, that turned around.

There was some scepticism when it was suggested tourists would stop coming to Bournemouth, but that became more than evident when Navitus (after hiding the results for a year) eventually confessed that their own research had shown that a third of visitors would be put off.

Almost nobody, myself included, dreamt that noise could be a problem, until a renowned expert in acoustics did the maths and Navitus revealed their hand by applying for exemption from compensation claims if their wind farm does cause a nuisance.

Now public meetings and surveys consistently show that 90 per cent of Bournemouth residents recognise the danger this industrial development would cause, and I believe we should all pay tribute to Poole and Christchurch Bays Association, Challenge Navitus, our MPs and Bournemouth Borough Council to the outstanding leadership they have each displayed in getting the truth out to residents and businesses.

Without them we would still be at the mercy of the developers’ spin machine.
