I READ the letter from Chris Date regarding the ‘hooligans’ at the final performance of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ last Saturday evening with amazement.

Firstly, I must admit to being one of the said ‘hooligans’ who, far from causing a disturbance, was simply showing appreciation and support to a cast of young people ranging from eight to 19 years of age, who after months of dedicated rehearsals put on a truly tremendous show.

This amateur production rivalled the same show at the West End; there too the audience are caught up with wonderful songs and join in.

The rapturous standing ovations the cast received at the end of Saturday’s performance by the entire audience would place Mr C’s opinion very much in the minority – probably his view alone.

I doubt his leaving the show part way through caused much distress to anyone.

I would certainly advise him to stay away from any future ‘rousing’ shows like panto or even BSO concerts where the audience are very much encouraged to enjoy and participate.

Swish of the Curtain’s production of the Wizard of Oz was a triumph and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone at the sell-out performances – well, except just one.

Musical theatre is very much alive and kicking. I am looking forward to the 2016 show.
