WHILST noting that all families in the local area that use Wilts and Dorset buses and who have family members with a disability of one sort or another enabling them to carry a concessionary bus pass are thankful for any financial help, it seems that with a little strategic manoeuvreing of timetables many more families would benefit enormously.

There must be an army of concessionary disabled bus pass users, young and old alike, who have to be at college/university or work places for nine o’clock on a week day. My son who catches the M2 from Parkstone to Charminster Monday to Friday is on low wages and has to pay full price every morning because his disability bus pass cannot be used before 9.30am. He has caught these buses regularly over the last few weeks and always found them to have plenty of free seats etc due to so many buses running from Poole (fantastic services from Wilts and Dorset for the local community) during this time of the day.

The pensioners, who are the other holders of similar bus passes, usually wouldn’t be using theirs at 8am to get to jobs/college, so this wouldn’t cause a mass influx of extra passengers.

I hope Wilts and Dorset can be a leading light in trying to help all authenticated disabled bus passengers by moving the time allowed to travel to 8.15am.

This will enable all to travel to and from work places and college/university without worrying whether they can afford the bus fares.
