ON reading the letters page in the Echo of January 24, I was rather bemused by the view depicted in the photo showing the proposed Hilton Hotel at Terrace Mount. As far as I’m concerned, it shows a pile of typically modern-day high-rise, ugly and uninspiring ‘samey’ structures, all based on a similar theme. Perhaps the view seen from inside the hotel may be more iconic?
The Imax has gone and we now have to accept further disastrous structures that will forever obliterate and overshadow the beauty of the Victorian villa style architecture which, for me, is Bournemouth. Why do our planners continue to accept designs that in no way reflect the character, style and dignity of its neighbouring buildings that are rapidly dying a death? Are we perhaps in the hands of the developers rather than the other way around? Watch out for further high density blots on the horizon!
