The article on January 21 regarding a 20mph speed limit (in Poole Lane) raised two issues.
The first was motorists ignoring the lollipop lady and the second was the 20mph limit itself.
When motorists ignore a lollipop lady they are committing an offence and can be fined and receive penalty points.
If there is a problem on Poole Lane, the question has to be asked – why aren’t the police taking action?
On the second issue it is hypocritical of the council to suggest that there isn’t the evidence to support a reduced limit.
There wasn’t the evidence to support a change to the Wessex Way speed limit but they still did it.
The quoted cost of £200,000 to implement a 20mph is disingenuous because it included traffic calming measures or, being rather more honest, filling Poole Lane with speed humps.
With a little thought it would not be difficult or expensive to have an effective, reduced speed limit, around the crossing areas – but unfortunately that is not Bournemouth Council’s modus operandi.
