YET again we have our local councillors telling us how wonderful the Three Towns Travel scheme is and the benefits it brings with £22million in government funding for road improvements across the area, with an emphasis on sustainable travel.
In fact it only brings benefits to certain selected parts of the conurbation. It may be nice to improve the environment in Richmond Hill, Horseshoe Common and Ashley Road, but most of us in the conurbation would be grateful for anything.
A typical example is Wallisdown Road.
This is an important east-west route between Bournemouth and Poole and suffers from congestion all day.
Bus services are threatened with reduction by Bournemouth and Poole councils in order to meet funding cuts.
Services to both hospitals and Poole town centre are infrequent. We see nothing of this £22m.
So I would like to say to our councillors, please take off your rose-tinted spectacles and tell us when we might see something done in other parts of the conurbation because at the moment many of us are the poor relations yet we pay the same council tax.
R F COOPER,
Laidlaw Close,
Poole
