On the theme of misinformation and propaganda, there seems to be a very thin line of factual information packed with much waffle.

Most outspoken folk seem to sliding off on either side of the argument.

The only opinion that Richard Chapman expressed that I am in total agreement with, is that there will not be any adverse effect of the feint view of the wind generators on the horizon from Poole or Bournemouth beaches. I can’t say the same for the Dark Sky properties of the nature park and Astronomy Observatory in Durlston county Park Swanage. But that is another story!

My gripe is about the almost total lack of assessment of the environmental effect on the ecology of the bay in general. The environment produces what is most cherished by visitors, an excellent climatic balance enjoyed by all. Weather permitting, of course.

The wind is not free. It is a vital part of the ecology. As it sweeps across the bay it cools the water by evaporation which provides our rainfall. It modifies the tides and helps to circulate vital life giving nutriment to eco systems within the bay. It is a sensitive environment we all take for granted.

What will the wind farm give to the bay? It will take energy from the wind allowing the water to heat up more in the summer. It will have cables carrying power through the water dissipating significant heat, adding to the summer warming. I’ve read that there are important protected areas in the bay with rare species hanging on in fragile conditions, and will be under serious threat.

And what is the Navitus Bay project for? For an unreliable source of energy which will be very costly to our economy. Which will have to be constantly topped up by other energy systems.

These systems will have to be on standby if not already providing most of the power we require. And don’t forget the huge profit that the foreign companies will be topping up their bank accounts with.

There is no other significant reason that these overseas companies want to get involved.
