I read with dismay that planning consent has been granted for the replacement of three cliff top hotels.

Aside from the collateral damage caused to the surrounding woodland area, as Cllr Lynda Price points out we will lose another chunk of our Victorian and Edwardian heritage.

It may not seem important now, just another three buildings gone, but the overall, accumulative effect is only too clear when you look at the destruction of Poole Town Centre in the ’50s and ’60s.

It seems that town planners and architects exist only for the present with no care or concern for the legacy of their actions.

We have the usual dross from the developers, ‘ boost economy, create jobs, exciting new landmark building, etc, etc,’ when the truth is it is just your bog standard block or two of flats and yet another ‘new’ hotel.
