I AM writing in response to Alderman Douglas Eyre’s recent letter, which refers to the Three Towns Travel programme.

‘Preparing for tomorrow’s journey’ is the vision behind this partnership programme being delivered by Bournemouth Borough Council, Borough of Poole and Dorset County Council. We apologise for the amount of road works taking place at present but the government require the scheme to be complete by Spring 2015.

The three local authorities submitted a joint bid to government which successfully secured almost £20 million of investment for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch to deliver the area’s biggest ever transport improvement programme.

Through the scheme, we are preparing for a future with more people, more jobs and more commuters. Specifically we are making improvements to local bus services, access to rail facilities, pedestrian areas and cycle routes along the main A35 corridor.

Managing future congestion is a key priority for all three councils delivering Three Towns Travel. Through this additional government funding we are committed to providing residents, visitors and commuters with an improved network fit for the future.

Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset have an excellent track record of working together to ensure the area remains ahead of the game.

Three Towns Travel is testament to the years of continued partnership working between the three councils, who have been recognised by government to be doing so through the award of the £20m grant.
