OVER two months ago there was an almighty furore about the closure of toilets off Ashley Road in Parkstone.

The Echo reported that Mr Richard Wilson was leading a campaign to have the community and local traders take over the running of the public toilets rather than have them closed.

They are still there, still closed and looking more and more rundown as time passes.

Whilst I, and many others who shop in the area, are happy to continue using other toilets available to us up and down the road (and certainly prefer them as they are in safer locations and better condition) I would like to know what is happening?

If this great idea of Mr Wilson’s to run the toilets locally is actually going to happen, when will they open?

Who will be paying for the electricity and hot water?

Who will be cleaning them?

Also, if there is the charge he suggests of 20p or something then surely as tax payers we are already paying for them through the government grant; so why pay twice?

Will they feel safer and be better lit?

Will they be cleaned more often than when the council had them?

Moreover, have the traders done their homework and actually asked shoppers if we would use them?

I am sure many of us would like an update from Mr Wilson who was leading the campaign to hear how this promise for the toilets to be run by the community is progressing.
