So, we've had the Surf Reef, the on-going saga of the on-off re-development of the former Bus Depot in Exeter Road.

To top it all, have your readers experienced the total fiasco of the so-called enhancements at the junction of East Way and Castle Lane West?

Not only did motorists suffer weeks of disruptions with temporary traffic lights and uneven road surface, now you have to negotiate the most confusing and dangerous of junctions I have ever witnessed.

I would have thought the main objective of such a scheme would be to get traffic flowing more freely.

But no, wait, a bizarrely over-wide cycle lane has been introduced to allow cyclists to ride alongside the traffic, and to cap it all, they even have their own bike-shaped green light.

This is a typical scenario: I was driving from the Broadway Hotel to Castle Point section of Castle Lane, traffic is flowing freely, the road is lovely and wide, you think you are riding the green wave, then the road funnels down into two tight lanes.

What is confusing, though, is a set of lights on your left designated for cyclists.

If they are green and your lane is red, it can make you think you can go.

Not only is this incredibly dangerous, I can honestly say I haven`t actually seen anybody on a bike.

So there you have it, in my view another Bournemouth Borough Council ‘white elephant’. Who are these people who sit around in ivory towers wasting taxpayers’ money? I would be interested to know of anybody else who thinks the same.
