I AM writing a book about a generous benefactor called William Smith, who I understand spent the latter part of his life in Bournemouth.
He was for many years a businessman in Lancaster, where he was well known for his generosity.
He was also instrumental, towards the end of the 19th century, in launching an Easter Day festival of sport and leisure for local schools and families in the city. It is still held today. The festival will be the main focus of my book.
William Smith served on the Lancaster council and was elected an alderman.
I just wonder if there are any descendants of this great man still living in the Bournemouth area and, if so, whether they could provide me with information about the life of a man who helped so many.
