MOVEMBER is upon us again and there will be many, many activities going on to increase awareness about prostate cancer.
Almost 18 months since I was diagnosed and thanks to the skill and dedication of my GP, doctors, surgeons and ward staff at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital I am – touch wood – to this day, free from the cancer that was detected.
Obviously there are to be after-effects of surgery or treatment but the positives far outweigh those niggly little problems.
The important thing is, as I have tried to drum into my two sons, any problems at all in that area, get it checked out.
There is no embarrassment in telling your doctor that things are not functioning properly, because early detection is what may have saved me from a lot, lot worse.
