AS REGARDS the blind and basically tunnel-visioned comments to my earlier letter, I despair. I actually find the response largely quite outrageous and bigoted.
Invoking violence is simply not acceptable. A sign of our tragic times, something actually important that should stir protest. It is not a case of being arrogant.
My father fought against a dictator and that regime in the Second World War and later he served 27 years in the police.
My mother and father were bombed and shot at by dictators and knew very well what was right and wrong, important and unimportant in this world.
My father actually gave up his priesthood to fight for his country and freedom.
I am making a valid and worthy point – read again the first letter.
Matters of where we cycle are simply not important in this world.
We must look at the wider picture and put right the real problems. For example, if we see a poor skeleton of an infant in someone’s arms dying of malnutrition in Africa, this is something to get outraged about.
Wake up please.
