IT is extremely good news that the government is proposing to charge British citizens who join IS and other terrorist groups with treason.

But the traitors first have to be apprehended and then brought before a court – a very lengthy and costly process.

What needs to happen immediately after British jihadists are identified is for their citizenship to be revoked and their passports cancelled – which would prevent them returning to the country they have betrayed.

It needs to be made clear that anyone leaving this country to join our enemies will never be permitted to return.
