SADLY, the staff being made redundant at Sunseeker are to face a pretty miserable future, as well as a lousy Christmas.
The impact on them and their families must be very hard to take. When I had read earlier this year that the Chinese had acquired 92 per cent of the business and that there were to be no job losses, I felt very suspicious.
From personal experience a number of years ago, we were assured that there was to be no redundancies. Sure enough four months later, letters were sent to our homes informing us that job losses were unfortunately going to happen.
Whilst in the present economic climate, I do understand that certain cutbacks may be needed, but I do feel that Sunseeker could have been more sympathetic in their timetable for the planned redundancies to the staff. They can well afford to pay the staff into the new year and give them a chance to find new jobs.
