In the report (OCT 9), Conor Burns MP seems ‘far from satisfied’ with the assurances he was given from the Home Office, “I don’t think it appropriate for them to come here”. Ruth Cook also believes it could “lead to an uncontrollable situation”.
Writing from memory as I do not have a copy of my earlier letter, I believe I made the point that it sounded as if anywhere north of Bournemouth would be ok. NIMBYism raises its head once again.
My experience of working with refugees has been limited but go back many years. The churches in Gloucester looked after several families from Vietnam. All I can say to that is it was an excellent and enjoyable time.
Bournemouth should help, just the same as any other town or city.
