I AM delighted to respond to your correspondent Margaret Jane with the good news that recycling is one of Bournemouth's greatest success stories of the past few years, with a staggering 91% of Bournemouth's waste now not going to landfill.

This not only saves a great deal of money, but is also excellent for the environment.

Residents have embraced recycling with great enthusiasm and have found that, on occasions, they have too much to fit into their bin.

When this happens, they should put the excess into a cardboard box next to the recycling bin and it will be collected at the usual time.

If this becomes a regular occurrence, there are options. Either the items can be taken to one of our 12 Neighbourhood Recycling Centres – usually situated in car parks – or residents can purchase a second bin for a one-off fee and this will, of course, be collected free of charge fortnightly with their first bin.

Finally, I would like to thank all those people who are helping to keep Bournemouth at the forefront of recycling waste for their efforts.
