I WAS a little disappointed to read the remark by the Echo to my question at the last Christchurch Borough Council relating to the decision by the council not to enter Britain in Bloom this year (leader ‘Bigger blooming issues, September 4). My question was about who made the decision to withdraw from this competition after many years of involvement.
I was asked by a resident of Christchurch why the council had made this decision and to my embarrassment I was unable to answer their question. Of course there have had to be cutbacks in all sorts of areas due to the lack of money now available to the local authority.
But my concern was and still is, why was a decision made by officers without any reference to councillors and what other decisions may have been made by officers without consultation with the publically elected councillors of this borough? I do hope this answers your question.
