THERE is good news that there is serious discussion now on a development of a much needed ice rink in Bournemouth.

The tourist industry will continue to flourish whilst we have decent weather but this bank holiday Monday shows we can no longer rely on sun shining to show off our wonderful beach and facilities.

The suggestion of an ice rink being built in the town centre would be great but if the original site of Kings Park remains the choice I think it would be better as we need a size suitable for competitions as well as leisure use, not a small size stuck in a development.

It could be the one and only rink along the south which would bring avid skaters, both professional and amateur.

Kings Park is not way out of town. For some it can be reached via Pokesdown railway station, bus/coach, car or taxi from Bournemouth rail station.

Of course, it would not just be a wet weather facility, and would become a major sport centre.

It would take our youngsters off their computers and away from the TV.

Bournemouth residents could be given a discounted seasonal ticket, giving us an ideal present to buy for birthday/Christmas.

The Air Festival has brought Bournemouth to the top of the places to be, now are needed other facilities to offer our visitors during summer and winter.
