I REFER to the Daily Echo article “A New Lease of Life” in the issue of Saturday 23rd August.

This article refers to plans by a London church to start services at the former St Swithun’s Church on the East Cliff.

The project team leader, Tim Mathews from London, is quoted as saying : “We also want to bring hope to the hopeless – St Swithun’s is on the doorstep of one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the south west.” Memo to East Cliff and Boscombe town councillors (answers on a postcard please) – do you agree with this out-of-towner’s opinion of our fair town?

saying something is "one of" is pretty meaningless. Boscombe is one of the most deprived areas but then again so is sandbanks. I am also one of the fattest men in England.

Statistically Boscombe is the most deprived ward in the South West (one half of it). This is based on indicators such as literacy/education levels, benefit claimants, health, etc.

Not the first religious group to target Boscombe. They will find the area quite saturated!
