Whilst I applaud the call of Poole People’s Party councillors to use council reserves to cope with rubbish, I cannot help but wonder whether they have considered the priorities of the people of Poole when considering the spending of our precious resources.
A recent survey by Age UK has highlighted the plight of some 900,000 OAPs who have been failed by the lack of home help available.
They are left alone to cope with everyday tasks such as preparing meals, washing themselves and getting out of bed in the mornings.
Poole council was one of the many councils to remove the criteria of moderate needs from many elderly and vulnerable people, following drastic cuts in funding.
Perhaps, if there is a fund of useable balances, it would be better to spend this money on the more vulnerable amongst us rather than on extra emptying litter bins during the very short-lived tourist season.
