I WAS sad to see Douglas Eyre promoting two completely wrong-headed ‘green’ arguments (Letters, July 18) about NIMBYS and energy.

The strong reasons to oppose the wind farm have nothing to do with NIMBYism.

They are instead guarding this beautiful area for future generations, avoiding devastating damage to tourism and the economy, noise levels breaking UK Noise Regulations, shocking increase in shipping danger, rescuing Jurassic Coast status as England’s only natural World Heritage site, averting deaths of thousands of birds, failing to provide any benefit whatever regarding energy and climate change.

The wind farm project is an energy policy disaster.

Since the capital cost of wind power is 10 times as much as conventional power, electricity bills are greatly increasing.

The single claimed justification is that wind power ‘saves carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel stations’.It doesn’t.

To avoid blackouts, back-up stations are essential as duplicate but highly inefficient providers.

They use more gas and emit more CO2 because they have to keep ramping up and down like cars’ engines in traffic to cope with changes in wind and therefore wind power level.

The Navitus Bay wind farm does not even satisfy its single justification: people are paying through the nose for more CO2 emissions.
