I read the article in the Bournemouth Echo on war veteran Brian Guy’s book ‘Cameos of War’ with interest.
I noticed he had served with the 246 Field Company Royal Engineers and as my father served with the 245 Field Company in Europe at the same time I guessed they would have shared similar experiences.
His book is also being sold to raise funds for the British Limbless Ex-Service Men’s Association (BLESMA).
Brian Guy’s book gives you little snapshots of his experiences as a 19-year-old Dorset lad who landed in France on D-Day and eventually was severely wounded.
Many of his experiences mirrored my late father’s recollections.
Brian’s strength of character shines through the pages as in spite of his injuries he returns to a successful career in engineering.
I will say no more – just buy the book! It is the least we can do for such an outstanding man.
