I was amazed to read of the pompous indignation expressed by the New Forest and Christchurch MPs Desmond Swayne and Chris Chope about Bryan and Nicola Rogers who made false benefit claims.
They were right to say that there is nothing more infuriating for people working hard than seeing other people cheat the system. It was reasonable to seek a longer jail sentence.
Where was their expression of horror at their parliamentary colleague Maria Miller who claimed £90,718 expenses, was told to repay the over claimed £45,000 but was allowed to only repay £5,800 by a committee of her fellow MPs?
One rule for the highly self esteemed members of Parliament and another for the New Forest peasants it seems.
