There is a flaw in the argument advanced by Mike Aston (Working for dole).
Leaving aside his choice that the work offered should be menial, if local councils were to make the savings he seeks they would have to terminate their existing arrangements either by firing their own staff or dispensing with the private company that does the work, which would then make its staff redundant.
Those people would sign on for dole. Would Mike Aston have them do their former job for nowt? I thought that was called slavery.
