Your article ‘New powers to police drinking’ (Daily Echo, January 23) highlights Bournemouth Council’s ability to consistently shoot itself in the foot.

On the one hand they are fervently opposed to charging a late night levy and to raising the police precept, and yet on the other hand wish to impose ‘new’ powers, to be policed by whom?

It is the council’s licensing and drink/drug rehab policies which are responsible for the situation, yet they want the police to get them out of their problem without giving them the money and resources to do it.
