Pendulum swing into some escapism
Pendulum played to a packed Guildhall this week as part of their In Silico UK tour.
Undoubtedly one of the biggest drum 'n' bass acts around, fans waited eagerly to see how they would transfer their sound to the live stage and they were not disappointed. The members' varied musical backgrounds means they have combined a heavy beat and scratching synth with a rock edge, thanks to Perry ap Gwynedd (guitar) and Paul Kodish (drums), creating a unique sound.
The band's founding producers Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen want their music "to be an escape" and if the energetic audience response was anything to go by they certainly achieved this.
Originally hailing from Perth but relocating to London in 2003, Pendulum have been embraced by British audiences. Their latest single Propane Nightmares entered the charts at number nine and received one of the best reactions of the night, suggesting they're likely to continue the momentum.
They kept the crowd jumping with tracks from their debut album Hold Your Colour, the remix of The Prodigy's Voodoo People and songs from their new album In Silico, out on Monday.
MC Jakes interacted well with the audience, especially during their hits Blood Sugar, Slam and Fasten Your Seatbelt, all of which really stole the show.
With some suitably fitting
lighting, it all created a great atmosphere.
The rendition of the title track from Hold Your Colour for their encore proved Pendulum truly are in a league of their own.
