Flocking to folk fest
Celebration (and music) will be in the air this weekend as the ancient market town of Wimborne Minster prepares to host its annual Folk Festival.
Originally a magnet for traditional folk dance with Morris from all over Britain descending on Dorset, the festival which runs for three days from Friday has expanded its horizons in recent years.
Purists can still experience with gusto the bells, tassles and ancient dance rituals of yesteryear but the event also includes plenty of recent and contemporary music too.
There are celidhs, dancing displays, bands, children's entertainers and even a festival campsite. The line-up includes various Morris teams and performers like Les Barker, Kris Drever, the Ruth Notman Trio, DisKan, Lu Brown, Tinderbox and many more.
There's even a chance to see Chris Jagger (Mick's little brother) who just happens to be playing the town's Tivoli Theatre in Friday night with his long time musical chum Charlie Hart. Their roots-meets-pub-rock vibe should fit in seamlessly with the overall festival atmosphere.
